
Established in 1939, Britax has evolved into the leading European manufacturer of child seats in part through acquisitions of Romer, Safe-n-Sound, and Steelcraft in the 70s and 80s. As part of Britax, Romer helped pioneer the development of ISOFIX, a standardized anchorage system for child seats which later became the precursor to LATCH system in the United States. Britax entered the US market in 1996 and shortly thereafter released the Roundabout, the country's first ever convertible car seat. The company also produces car seats designed especially for children with special needs under the brand Snug Seat.
